Brian and Lindsay live in the coastal Matakana region of New Zealand, an hour north of the largest city Auckland.

It is a region of rolling hills, beautiful beaches, vineyards, cafes, nature walks and one of the best bird sanctuaries in New Zealand.

In 2002 they bought a 120 acre farm near one of the beaches that Brian used to surf while growing up in Auckland, to stop it being developed.

They immediately started to return the poor farmland to its native forest and wetland and so far have planted over 300,000 trees, providing habitat for many endangered native bird species.

Over a 6 year period, their shared passion for architecture saw the build of Koru House, in the face of obstacles including the global economic meltdown.

Koru House was awarded house of the year for the North Island by the Architectural Designers of New Zealand in 2013.

At the end of 2015, the studio wing and guest cottage opened as Koru Hideaway holiday rental accommodation, where guests from around the world come to relax and enjoy this little piece of paradise.
